Local students receive high voltage training

Local students have successfully completed High Voltage Persons Training as part of their work experience this week. The sixth formers from Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni and Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones, Amlwch were introduced to key safety principles, technical skills, and responsibilities involved in working with high voltage systems. Through the course, the students learnt about a range of topics, including identifying high voltage risks, implementing safe systems of work, carrying out isolation and testing procedures, using PPE correctly, handling specialist equipment, and responding to emergencies.

Mia Owen Hughes, a pupil at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones Student said: “After getting an insight into Morlais at a Seren programme careers event, I was inspired to come to here for my work experience. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Menter Môn Morlais and I am keen to understand more about jobs in this field." Working with schools and colleges is part of Menter Môn Morlais’ ongoing commitment to inspire students to consider careers in the renewable energy sector.

One of the students recently completed the Inspire to Build programme, delivered by the Regional Skills Partnership in collaboration with Menter Môn, and has since chosen to undertake work experience with Morlais.

Gruff Parry from Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni said: “The opportunities that the 'Inspire to Build' programme and the work experience at Morlais have offered me will be invaluable when I apply to university to study engineering and as I think about a career in the industry. I’d like to say a big thank you to the team here at Menter Môn."

The training was delivered by EDS HV Group, a company that provides expert high voltage engineering training to the renewable energy sector.

Fiona Parry, Skills and Training Project Officer with Menter Mon Morlais added: “We’re extremely grateful to EDS HV Group for providing this valuable training opportunity and supporting our commitment to encourage young people to consider careers in this important and growing sector”.
