Morlais policy asks for next Welsh Government
Morlais has published its manifesto for the 2026 Senedd election, setting out a bold vision for policy, funding and infrastructure support.
The manifesto urges the next Welsh Government to take action and make tidal energy a core part of Wales’s energy future.
The manifesto sets out five key asks:
-
Champion community-owned renewable energy and ensure local benefit.
-
Accelerate grid and infrastructure support to enable efficient energy export.
-
Provide stable, long-term funding and unlock private investment.
-
Embed marine energy in Wales’s net-zero and energy security strategies.
-
Invest in skills, apprenticeships, and supply chains to create lasting economic value.
Andy Billcliff, Menter Môn Morlais CEO said:
“Wales has the potential to become a global leader in tidal energy but realising that potential now requires political commitment. Morlais shows what a community owned energy scheme can achieve. With the right support from the next Welsh Government, we can deliver clean power and ensure local economic benefits through the supply chain opportunities and job creation”
Morlais has already completed onshore infrastructure, secured consents, and is preparing for turbine deployment from 2027. The scheme continues to prioritise local economic benefit, environmental responsibility, and world-leading marine research.
