North Wales politicians visit Morlais site

The Morlais team was pleased to welcome Janet Finch Saunders MS and Virginia Crosbie MP to the construction site this week to see work that is currently underway. The visit was an opportunity for the MS and MP to learn more about the project and its potential to generate clean renewable energy.

During their visit, they were given a tour of the construction site and were able to see first-hand the progress that has been made on the project so far. They were also able to meet with the project team and learn more about the technology that will be used to generate electricity here.

Andy Billcliff CEO of Morlais, said: “We were delighted to host the visit this week and to show the work which is ongoing on the Morlais tidal energy project so far. This is an exciting project that has the potential to generate significant amount of renewable energy as well as benefit the economy in this region. Janet Finch Saunders and Virginia Crosbie met with our contractor Jones Bros and met some of the local workforce employed at the site – giving them an insight to the new opportunites already being realised here.”

The Morlais project is a key part of Wales’ commitment to becoming a net-zero carbon economy by 2050. The project is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the local area and create new jobs and supply chain opportunites in the renewable energy sector. Once completed, the project will have the potential to generate 240MW of electricity.

Morlais is funded by the European Regional Development fund through the Welsh Government. It is also supported by the Isle of Anglesey County Council, North Wales Growth Deal, as well as The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
