Morlais welcomes Stena announcement on Holyhead investment

Anglesey tidal energy project, Morlais has welcomed Stena Line’s announcement this week of significant investment plans for Holyhead. Having played a key role in early discussions to ensure grid capacity at the former aluminium works site, Morlais owner, Menter Môn is now looking forward to continued collaboration.

Commenting on the news, Andy Billcliff, CEO of Menter Môn Morlais Ltd said: “We are proud to have contributed to the discussions that enabled Stena to reach this exciting milestone. This investment is a real boost for the local economy and a positive step in terms of job creation on the island, demonstrating the value of working in partnership to deliver long-term benefits for the region."

From the start, Morlais has focused on ensuring its offshore electricity connection is integrated with plans for sustainable and reliable energy as well as facilitating wider economic growth. Progress on Morlais continues, with its substation near Holyhead complete and agreements in place with four turbine developers. The scheme is set to begin generating clean, renewable electricity from 2026.
